Definition of Hazardous Waste:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency defines a hazardous substance as anything that is a) FLAMMABLE, b) CORROSIVE, c) TOXIC (Poisonous), or d) REACTIVE (explosive) when combined with another substance. These substances should not be disposed of in household garbage and they are not accepted at the Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility.
Household Hazardous Waste Days in Greenwich:
The Town of Greenwich conducts one Household Hazardous Waste Day each Spring, where you can dispose of your household hazardous waste demonstrating the above listed hazardous characteristics. It is held in the Greenwich High School parking lot on Hillside Road. It is for use by residents only - no commercial loads accepted.
